The Food Service Worker is located in Nutrition and Food Services at theVA Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. In this position, you will utilize your knowledge of food service operations and advanced food delivery system including food preparation, tray delivery and pick-up, ware washing and sanitation. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: * Preparing and portioning food items; * Making sandwiches, toast, and hot cereals; * Selecting and placing food items on patient trays according to the tray ticket; * Utilizing computer labels to deliver between meal nourishments, tube feedings and bulk nourishments; * Delivering and retrieving meal trays and other food items; * Reporting patients' comments and complaints to the supervisor utilizing the reference slip; * Setting up and operating a dishwasher, pot & pan machine and pulper extractor; * Operating a trash compactor on dumpster; * Performing heavy duty cleaning tasks including cleaning, wiping, and washing all type of equipment and surrounding work areas; * Maintaining established food temperatures and food service safety and sanitation standards; and * Performing other related duties as assigned. Must be able to move advanced food delivery carts (AFD) that weigh up to 575 pounds; properly use a cart tugger puller to assist in AFD cart movement. Work may be repetitive for short periods of time. The incumbent may be required to perform heavy work, such as scouring and scrubbing large size cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. May be required to work on ladders and use power cleaning equipment including a steam wand. Food Service Workers are required to use safety devices/equipment provided for the completion of some tasks including tuggers, shoes, gloves, disposable gowns, masks, and coats. Work Conditions:The work is performed in kitchen area where the steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortable high temperature and humidity. The work area is well lighted but usually noisy form food service activities, and there is a danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been dropped. Food Service Workers are regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot cooking and rethermalization surfaces and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration and freezing units, incumbent is routinely exposed to chemicals used for sanitation in food service areas. Incumbent is routinely exposed to all types of weather conditions when moving between buildings.
